• Additives such as fiber reinforcement, silica fume pozzolan; epoxy, acrylic and concrete overlay materials are often used.
• Countertops are made of cement, lightweight aggregates and a combination of additives. The hard, durable countertop epoxy is so dense that oils and fluids cannot penetrate its surface to soak in and cause staining.
• Some type of reinforcement is used such as structural steel, wire mesh, fiberglass, and/or fibers. Sometimes more than one type of reinforcement is used.
• The countertops are cured. Countertops are often ground. For example, grinding off the surface “skin” with progressively finer diamond polishing stones. This achieves two important objectives: durability and beauty.
Our countertops are always sealed. The type of sealer, method and number of coats of sealer is unique to each concrete countertop project. EpoxyMaster utilizes its high performance industrial Countertop Epoxy as a top coat, particularly in kitchen areas. The epoxy is harder than the concrete itself. Using a high performance countertop epoxy as a sealer is very affordable and it takes less than a week to apply due to using multiple coats. The results are amazing. While this adds to the cost, the quality is superior and the only maintenance that will be required is to apply a good water-based liquid wax every nine months to a year.
